Mt Whitney before May 1st

May 1st is the start of the PERMIT system.

AND it’s not easy getting a permit to hike the highest mountain in the continental USA May 1 – November 1.

Kraig Adams did it solo in late April. He had to prepare for snow, ice and cold.

Kraig. Great video and trip report. I’m planning on doing Whitney this year on May 18th. The snow pack this season is nearly the same as last season, but I am still concerned about the ‘cable section’. How sketchy was that section when you went. I paused the video on that section, and some of it looked ok, but other sections looked a bit dicey with barely any cable exposed. Any info on this section is appreciated:) Thanks Robert
