best solar chargers for hikers

Trailspace posted a review of the new solar chargers on display at the Outdoor Retailer show 2010 in Vegas.

Bill Straka is sticking with this Brunton, for now:

Brunton Solaris 12 – Solar charger (approx. $239)

But Brunton has a new, more compact system coming out this year. And it’s much cheaper.

  1. At the recent OR show in SLC, I was introduced to a Chinese Gentleman who had an entire solar powered pack to a (I believe) Brunton battery – for $38!!!

They also had a waterproof shell, no metal, that had a waterproof Ipod/mp3 pocket… no biggie, right? Except you can control the Ipod from your sleeve, and it was a very expensive $60!!! Including the controller cable!

    I’m ordering one of each.

Also, check out the Jakpak… this is perfect for you, Rick, and for AR in general. I’m working on getting one for you to demo and write on…
