Madeira is an archipelago in the Atlantic, an Autonomous region of Portugal. Madeira Island and Porto Santo Island are the only inhabited islands.
I’ve just subscribed to Madeira Walking, a quality, impressive site.
The unique attraction of this area are Levada, irrigation channels that double as ideal hiking trails.

Nature Meetings, partners on this site, offers guided half and full day Levada walks or “dramatic Mountain walks”.

Dear Rick,
Thank you for your “shout” on your, also impressive, blog.
Madeira not only has its famous Levada walks but it also offers challenging hiking opportunities all over the island. We often do not realize that we are living on an island.
All our groups, for which we organize walks and hikes, were very enthusiastic and fell in love with the island. But don’t take our word for it and just check the images our visitors have captured during their walks:

We hope that more hikers from all over the world will honor us with a visit to our beautiful Pearl of the Atlantic … Madeira.
Looking forward to meet you.
I was in Madeira some months ago (you can see some photos in my blog) and i’ll have to agree that hiking is a great part of discovering madeira. Sure worth it!
