National Park or Disney World?

I’ve never entered Disney World.

Since I’ve never owned a house, I could not spend the “profit” on rapidly escalating market value on a holiday.

Now many others in North America join me in comparative poverty.

… If you take a family of four (three members age 10 or more, one under 10), to Disney World for one day, you’ll pay nearly $300 (you can do the calculations at this site) for the privilege of passing through the gate. The Universal Studios theme park in Orlando, Florida? Buy online and one park for one day will only cost you $73 per ticket.

How much more you’ll spend on hotels and meals, well, you can imagine. …

Now, if you go to Yellowstone National Park, it’ll cost that same family of four just $25 to pass through the gate — and that entry pass is good for seven days. Go to Great Smoky Mountains National Park and it won’t cost you anything, as there are no entry fees at that park. …

  1. The experience of the early nineties, the last time Australia had a real recession, was that more people went bushwalking as we call it here. My last holiday was $20-30 a night for a campsite compared to $100-$200 for a motel room, where I couldn’t cook my own food, so even more expense. The campsite also meant I had breakfast with the cute pademelons which are miniature kangaroos.

  2. My MIL pretty much forced us to go to Disney World this December (they live nearby). My kid was overwhelmed after a couple hours – by the crowds, lights, sounds and did I mention crowds? Worse is walking on concrete all day.

He later told her he’d have rather gone to a National Park. Hahhah.

And it cost us $80 a person, not including the parking nor the severely overpriced food inside. (MIL didn’t pay for us!) We stayed in Orlando which did get us a cheaper hotel but still…..

I can remember going to Disney Land in Ca when I was my son’s age, but yuck. Oh yuck. Never again. I hated it.
