Hiking out of Bariloche, Argentina

San Carlos de Bariloche, normally called Bariloche, is a major tourism centre with skiingtrekking and mountaineering facilities.

The city is very popular with Brazilian, European and Israeli tourists.

And with ME. 😀

The BEST HIKE there is the Nahuel Huapi Traverse. Challenging, for sure.

Here’s a terrific, comprehensive overview of how to get to Bariloche. And what to do when you get there:

Climbing Mount Mulanje, Malawi

The Mulanje Massif, also known as Mount Mulanje, is a large inselberg in southern Malawi.

Sapitwa Peak, the highest point on the massif at 3,002 m, is the highest point in Malawi. …

The Massif is popular for hiking and climbing, and has several mountain huts scattered across it which are maintained by the Malawi Mountain Club and the Malawi Forestry Department.

If you want to know more, the Mountain Club posted a detailed document with options for hiking from 1 – 5 days.

Peak of the Balkans Trail

Accursed Mountains. Three nations.

This 192km circuit will take you through the mountains of northern Albania, eastern Kosovo and southern Montenegro.

The ancient routes were cut during the cold war when tensions were high between Yugoslavia and Albania.

The German Development Agency through a project to support the communities of these three countries restricted the trail and turned it into an amazing touristic offer. The route offers a diversity of landscapes and cultural experiences. …

Wanderlust Himalaya: Hiking on Top of the World

A 300-page coffee table book that showcases 26 of the finest hikes from the world’s highest mountain range (along with a handful from the adjoining Karakoram Range).

The featured trails include established classics such as the Annapurna Base Camp, Markha Valley, and K2 Base Camp Treks, along with lesser-known excursions such as Bhutan’s Jomolhari Trek and Tibet’s Ganden to Samye Monastery Trek.

The Hiking Life

With the release of Wanderlust Himalaya, the series now numbers six in total. In order of their release, the first five books were as follows: 1. Wanderlust: Hiking on Legendary Trails; 2. The Hidden tracks: Wanderlust off the Beaten Path; 3. Wanderlust USA; 4. Wanderlust Europe, and; 5. Wanderlust Alps.

Sadly, I didn’t find the full set under the Christmas tree 2022.
